Yoga - The Perfect At Home Activity

Yoga - The Perfect At Home Activity

If yoga is something you haven’t tried before or are unsure about how to start, now is the time to get into it! Yoga has many physical and mental health benefits and it doesn’t have to be difficult either. You can do it in the comfort of your own home at your own pace, which is ideal for beginners.

Yoga has many benefits. From a physical perspective, it helps with flexibility, muscle strength and can even help improve your posture. From a mental health point of view, it can help you de-stress, sharpen your focus and help you relax.

So if you’re thinking about giving yoga a go, here are a few things to keep in mind.

GET THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT

As easy as it might be to look up some yoga flows on YouTube and get straight into it, having some basic equipment and the right clothing can make the experience much more enjoyable. Having a good-quality yoga mat is a must for any beginner and it’s also important to have comfortable clothes which can flex as you do and also not have zips or buttons in spots which might be uncomfortable.

SET YOUR GOALS

People can do yoga for many different reasons, and so it’s important to work out a purpose for your exercise. Some people may want to improve their flexibility, core strength or overall strength. Other people do it for the mental health benefits. Find your purpose for yoga and you’ll be sure to take more enjoyment from it.

CHOOSE YOUR EXERCISES

There is an abundance of yoga lessons, classes and exercises available on the internet these days. Before starting, it’s important to do some research and find exercises which you will be able to do as a beginner. Try not to set the bar too high and then be disappointed if you can’t do that particular exercise. Start with the basics and work your way up. There are plenty of video tutorials available online which can talk you through a yoga session.

STICK WITH IT

The reality is that no one will get their first yoga poses absolutely perfect. But you will notice over time that the more you perform the exercises, the better you’ll get. Don’t let the fact that you might not be as flexible or as strong as you would like to discourage you from persevering and improving.

ESTABLISH A ROUTINE

Once you’ve finally managed to get a good handle on a range of poses, it’s important to set time aside in your weekly routine to work on these. If you don’t do them regularly, you won’t see improvements in your form or strength. It’s often best to do a yoga routine early in the morning to start your day or at night to help decompress from the day’s events.
