With the ever-growing nature of children’s feet, it is helpful to know how a shoe should fit and when it is time to get refitted. As children’s feet grow, it is important to ensure their shoes have the necessary room to accommodate growth whilst not being too large that they are instable and tripping.

Here is an at home guide of how to check your kids’ shoes are fitting perfectly:

Length – As a rule, your children’s shoes should have a thumb length between the end of their toe and the shoe. This will allow for comfortable movement that accommodates growth.

To test, simply get your children to be standing up right, ensure their heels are all the way to the back of the shoe and measure the space between the end of their toe and the shoe. If there is less than one thumb width, it is time for some new shoes. It is important to measure for growth at least every 6 months to monitor if they need to go up a shoe size. This is a great at home test to gauge if your children need to be refitted with new shoes.

It is essential you find the right shoe sizes during the formative growing years as our feet our the foundation that affect the way we walk, run and even our posture. Intersport's friendly staff members are always happy to help you find the perfect fitting shoe for your children.
